Throwback Thursday: Fantasy Tournament Rules

I was digging through a box of old books recently and came across the Warhammer Fantasy Battle Book from Fantasy 5th Edition.

I flipped through it and happened to stumble across some pages that caught my eye: Tournament Rules

White Dwarf 39 First Look

It's been a few weeks, but we picked up this week's White Dwarf and I thought I'd do a quick first look. This week's cover features the new massive mini for the End Times series, the Glottkin.

NOVA Recap: Fantasy GT

Now that I have had a week to recover and recharge, I am ready to take a look back at my first fantasy GT. Going in I really had no idea what to expect as far as how I would do; I did well in my tournament leading up to NOVA, but I figured competition would be much stiffer… and I was right. I ended up going 1-5 for the weekend, with a couple of games that got out of hand quick.

A local player from my area, love the gyrocopter conversion in the top left!

NOVA Preparation, Fantasy Style

As the newest contributor to the blog, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I am the resident fantasy player of the group, yet to make the leap to 40k. I grew up playing both fantasy and 40k with Evan. After a long hiatus I have decided to make the leap back into the hobby. While I do enjoy the painting and fluff of the hobby, my real passion is the gaming side, so the fact that NOVA is fast approaching motivated me to get back into the swing of things.

My army, just about ready for the tourney (now to create a display board!)

Fantasy Bat Rep: 4,000 pts Dark Elves vs. Nurgle Chaos Warriors

On our last gaming weekend, we branched out a bit and played some Fantasy. Chris came down to join us and he's been getting into Fantasy rather than 40k, so we planned on playing a bit of both. Chris was my main gaming buddy growing up, and like me, he had dropped the hobby in college and for several years after.

2014 Resolutions - Grey Tide Style

With a hefty bit of plastic currently in various stages of painting, priming, off sprue, and on sprue, I figured this would be a good New Years resolution of sorts.  As with all resolutions, it is all about commitment, determination, and getting that first week under your belt.  With that said, I am currently battling through the second semester of my job, starting coaching, and have a couple of other major things to deal with.  Yet I am going to find time, space, and the willpower to hit all of my goals.  This is going to be a quick, what is my current tide, what I want to get done and by when, and what do I need to do to make sure I get there.

What better way to start the New Year than by realizing how much stuff I really have to get through.

As you can see, I got some painted......and most not

So here is My Grey Tide Resolution.

Evan's 2014 FTGT Resolutions

Hi All. I thought I would put together a 2014 Resolutions list for my goals as a hobbyist in the next year. I've also suggested the other guys do it so I don't look quite so egocentric.

The goal of setting up resolutions like this is to create a set of goals I can track myself on throughout the year. This goes back to what I did with my NOVA prep posts last summer. Hopefully some of you will like the method and adopt something similar. Or maybe you are awesome and already achieve your hobby goals without need for lists. But I like them.

List Building: 2k Dark Elves - A Foray into Fantasy

As I flipped through the book, still not sure what actually makes up a good army, I decided a good place to start would be to just building a list, based predominantly on what I had painted, but leaving the option to include things I owned. The first thing that became apparent is that the point systems aren't even close to similar to 40k, and while I planned at starting at 2k, even then I couldn't fit much of what I hoped to include.

Dark Elf Army Book Review

On the evening of this codex's release, my wife flips through the book to feign interest, and announces in summary: "I don't like this book. There's too much boobs."

She was kidding.

Mostly.

Pulling Out the Dark Elves

With the imminent release of the new Dark Elf book, I figured it was a good time to break out my old Dark Elves and take stock of what I had.

Dark Elves First Impressions

With GW putting up the Pre-orders for the first wave of the new Dark Elves, I thought I would dive into the rulebook and old army book so I might be able to appreciate the changes in the new Army Book when I pick it up this weekend. It became abundantly clear how little concept I have of fantasy in its current incarnation. I plan on reading up more on the rules and forum tactics, but until I play a few games, it will be hard to get a strong appreciation for how the game works and what works best.

For those looking for an Army Book/Codex review, that can be found here. This post focuses on the new kits.

That said, while I might struggle to comment on the rules when I get them, I can comment on my impressions of the new models.
