Warzone: Atomic Empire Recap

Weekend before last I played in Warzone: Atomic Empire, in Durham, NC. I got to play five great games against five awesome opponents, and spoiler, I managed to win my group for the first time in my tournament career.

Warzone: Atomic Empire was a two-day, five-round event based on the Warzone: Atlanta concept of total hobby, and put together and run by some great players and ambassadors of the game in the Southeast, lead by Mike Twitchell and Horton Doughton.

Facing The Grey Tide Podcast - Episode 65: FAQ Preview and Thoughts on Tau and Necrons

What is up Everyone? This week Chandler, Evan, and Bryan are talking about their thoughts on the possible FAQ, their thoughts on the the new mini knights, and the release of Tau.  The boys start to talk about what they think of the Tau codex in terms of GW's possible greater move, some of their thoughts on lists leading into Adepticon, and how the mini Knights fit into all of this idea.  The boys also talk briefly about their thoughts on some of the other issues that might exist between the true state of the game and where GW sees the game.  The second half of the game, they talk about the Tau codex and their initial thoughts.  With a very limited time of looking at the Tau Codex, the boys give their initial thoughts on the codex, and they see a very high infantry count army in the future.  They finish off with a little Necron talk since the release of some preliminary rules have hit the web.

The boys are back after a mini break, and the future looks to be on the ground.

NOVA Recap Part 3 - My Experience

For part three of my NOVA recap, I wanted to finally get into my own experiences at NOVA. Part 1 was a pic dump primarily from the 40k hall, while part 2 dug into some of the stats from the 40k GT. I'll cover my games briefly, and hopefully discuss them a bit more in an upcoming podcast, and overall share my experiences at one of the premier hobby and gaming events out there.

NOVA Bound: The Final Push

Amazing how time flies; NOVA is less than a week away at this point (more exact time in the side-bar counter), and I still have a good bit to do (to the surprise of no one). I've got a couple projects I need to finish up before I head out the door to NOVA, and some more I will probably be working on in the hotel room.

Facing The Grey Tide Podcast - Episode 43: Ben Cromwell Jumps In

What is up Everyone? This week on the Podcast, the boys welcome back Ben Cromwell.  Ben is an awesome painter who is helping Evan with the FTGT Painting service, but he joins us to talk about the Iron Halo GT.  This is an ITC Major Event in Barlesville, OK.  He also talks to us about his thoughts on Deathwatch and the Necron FAQ.  He also drops his ideas about Eldar and what he is planning to run at the Iron Halo GT.  We are excited to talk to him, get the updates from Ron and Evan about their lists for NOVA, and Bryan and Chandler are still working towards their individual tournaments coming up in the fall.

Ben joins us for fun, shenanigans, and to talk about a cool tournament for a great cause.

NOVA Bound: List Building Again

As is my norm at this point, I'm still debating what list I'm going to take to NOVA this year. That said, I'm coming closer I think to settling on something, which is good seeing as we're just a little over a month out.

Facing The Grey Tide Podcast - Episode 41: Tournament Prep with the Boys

What is up Everyone? This week on the Podcast, the Crew is BACK!  Bryan makes his grand return to the podcast and just in time to run down his ideas for the upcoming tournaments that we are all playing in.  With Evan and Ron heading to NOVA, Evan and Chandler heading to the Warzone, and Bryan stomping into Renegade, we have a lot of list ideas, a lot of stuff to finish, and a lot of BS to sort through.  We also dive into some of the differences when getting ready for tournaments and some of the differences from tournament to tournament.

It is a Competitive Grey Tide washing ashore.

Tournament Wrap Up - Mulligan's June RTT

Last weekend I made a bit of a trip to Mulligan's for their June RTT, which was an ITC event with 16 players showing up. I had decided to go pretty last minute, so I took a Necron list I was pretty comfortable with and took a Wraith-star list with the Start Collecting! Necrons formation, the Retribution Phalanx.

FTGT Painting WIP Wednesday - Spyder Bases

Hey guys, back again for another WIP Wednesday update. Things have been a bit slow the last couple weeks, despite knocking out the Tankbursting Mawloc over the weekend. The Warhound was temporarily shelved, but I should be getting back to him next week.

NOVA Bound: Early List Building and Speculation

While NOVA is still a ways off, I have already begun the yearly debate on what I'm going to bring to NOVA. I'll also be competing in the Invitational again this year, so may opt for two different armies. I will have the Necrons to fall back on, and the list I brought to NRVCon is probably about the ideal list I would take.

NRVCon Wrap Up

NRVCon 2016 is in the books, and while the 40k tournament was a bit smaller than we hoped, it was still a great time. Thanks to everyone who played. You can see the results on Torrent of Fire. Also, before I get into the event, a ton of thanks to the TO Elle for running the event.  I had three great games and ended up taking home Renaissance Man, being runner up, third in BPs, and second in Paint Score, but more on that toward the end.

NRVCon List Building III - 1,850 NOVA Necrons

As I mentioned last time when I was reworking my Eldar list, I also had started considering going back to the Necrons. For the last week or so I've been tweaking a few varieties of list and think I've settled on the Necron list I'm most likely taking. This list uses the Retribution Phalanx formation from the Start Collecting! Necrons box.

LVO by the Numbers

So, with LVO over and done with, I wanted to take a quick look at how the various armies fared, who made day three, and overall outcomes and impressions from the event as a distant bystander. First, the armies. This analysis has actually been done elsewhere - some people beat me to the punch, but I've included some nice pretty charts, so I'll talk about it anyway.

NOVA Bound 2016 - Early List Building

With NOVA passes going on sale last night, it's already that time of year to start thinking about what I will be taking and what events I will participate in. I haven't totally committed yet, but I'm fully expecting to play in the 40k GT again this year; who knows what the meta landscape will be like in 7 months' time, but at least for now I can start building my plan.

2015 In Review and 2016 Resolutions

Happy New Year! In the lull around holidays, and awaiting the imminent arrival of my first child, I thought I would review the last year and revisit my Hobby Resolutions from the past year, and outline some new ones or updates for 2016.

To recap 2015, I'll try to just hit some highlights.

List Building: Post NOVA Necrons for ITC

With NOVA 2015 in the rearview, I have debated what would be next for my Necrons. The first thought was how I would adapt the list to ITC format, not that I have plans to attend an ITC event anytime soon. Of course, it also begs the question of whether my list would work at all in an ITC format; I would have to cut the Aspect Host and two Canoptek Harvest formations. This presents a big problem for the list (as cutting almost half of any army would). So, for this post, what can I do to make a Necron list I like that isn't Arachnophobia?

NOVA in Review, Part 3: GT Bat Reps, Day 2

As I mentioned in my last bat rep post, I ended Friday 3-0, and began Saturday matched up against Frontline Gaming's Frankie. Game 4 was Points and Regions, which is a board quarter mission. Honestly, I felt pretty lucky to run into Gladius on this mission and not on the other three missions. The board quarters made Frankie's army-wide Objective Secured much less important than an objective based mission.

Facing The Grey Tide Podcast - Episode 28: John Parsons Rolls with the Grey Tide back from NOVA

What is up Everyone?  This week, Evan, Chandler, and Bryan bring a friend back from the NOVA.  Mr. John Parsons comes in to talk about the NOVA, Tournaments, Building Lists, and basically how to be a complete BA both on the table and off.  He talks about how he preps for big tournaments, what he looks for when building for a tournament, and what can trip lists up when you are at a tournament.  Of course Evan and John have an epic throw down at NOVA by swapping lists.  The boys welcome a new friend onto the show and John brings the knowledge and a lot of humor calling certain things out.
