Review: Predator, Prey - The Beast Arises Book 2
With the release of the third book in the Beast Arises series last weekend, it's about time I finished my review of the second installment in the Beast Arises series from Black Library, Predator, Prey. This will be my second time writing this post as the first was eaten by the warp, though I also didn't like the direction it went. As with part 1 of the review, SPOILER ALERT.

Review: I Am Slaughter - The Beast Arises Book 1
This fall, the Black Library announced a new mini-series of books in the 40k Universe's history; the Beast Arises, a 12-part series set two millenia after the Horus Heresy. Being a sucker for series and the 40k universe as a whole, I subscribed to the series, meaning I will get each book at it is released each month. With the first book having been out a month, and the next impending, let's dive into a review of Book 1, I Am Slaughter. As with my Horus Heresy reviews (which I haven't done in ages), SPOILER ALERT.

Bat Rep: The Battle of Piscina IV
Last week, Will was down to wrap up his Masters defense (congrats to Will) and we got in a few turns of a fun, fluffy game using the scenario from White Dwarf 73 - The Battle of Piscina IV. The scenario is based on Warboss Nazdreg's field test of his Tellyporta technology on the world of Piscina IV, which was defended by the Dark Angels. We settled on 2,025 points give or take 5 points and got to it.

On the GW D6 Scale - Fluff to Game Play
A topic that has interested me off and on for a while is the seeming discrepancy between rules and fluff. Your average space marine could shoot a coin flipped into the air 100 yards away while he was diving over a barrel or something similarly insane, and, in the game, is BS4. Meanwhile, a guardsman, who is, according to the fluff, battle hardened and well trained, is BS3. This seems like a small discrepancy. Similarly, regular guardsman is T3, while the superhuman space marine who can be stabbed in the heart and have a limb blown off and keep going is only 1 point higher and T4. What gives?

Shield of Baal: Exterminatus Review
Over the weekend I finished my read through of the newest addition to the Shield of Baal campaign. Again, the first thing that really stands out to me with the book is the artwork. I didn't note any repeated skull themes, but it was nonetheless very nice images. The take on the Tyranids in this series has been awesome, with a very unnatural and creepy look that fits with the longtime fluff descriptions of them.

Shield of Baal: Leviathan Fluff Book Review
I wrapped up reading through the fluff book and enjoyed it immensely. The visuals are very high quality, both original artwork and diorama/showcases for new models. I will talk about how things go in the story line, so Spoiler Alert below the bump.

The Iron Wolf Rides
With Wolves always on the mind, I have been thinking of some fun themed lists that will bring Logan Grimnar into play riding atop his mighty sleigh. It starts with the Great Company of Egil Iron Wolf, and ends in a crazy amount of high armor, angry Wolves looking for Blood.
This is a list that I have started thinking about because of the fact I have some Land Raiders, I want to play Logan in a List where his sled can ride free, and something that would be fun at any event, even in a loss.
So let the Iron Wolf Ride!

Galaxy in Flames (Horus Heresy Book 3) Review
Like with Book 2, I bought Galaxy in Flames immediately after finishing False Gods (review here) and started reading just about straight-away. This novel more or less ties up the first trilogy that started with Horus Rising (review here). As with previous reviews, I'll try to avoid spoilers, but this one might make it tougher; at this point there's no way to avoid mentioning some events of Book 1 and 2, so if you haven't read them yet, maybe wait until you have.

False Gods (Horus Heresy Book 2) Review
Once I finished Book 1 of the series I was hooked and immediately bought Book 2: False Gods, at around midnight on a weeknight. As with Horus Rising, the first line is a heck of a hook: "I was there the day that Horus fell..."

Horus Rising (Horus Heresy Book 1) Review
I know I am way behind the times, but the Horus Heresy books were first released in my time away from the hobby. I am an avid reader, but always found Black Library novels fairly hit or miss in terms of enjoyment, some being absolutely atrocious while others being fun. My interest in the Horus Heresy series was piqued when +Chandler D lent me a copy of the audio Prospero Burns to listen to at work. I was thoroughly impressed by scope and quality of the writing, pleasantly surprised to find that the novel not only went far beyond an action, hack and slash story, but that I enjoyed a Warhammer novel that couldn't be recreated on the table top. As I read through, I plan on doing short little reviews for anyone who is interested. I will do my best to avoid spoilers, which means the review may have to be fairly generic.
I was sucked in, from the very first line, preceding even the first chapter: "I was there, the day Horus slew the Emperor..."
