Tournament Wrap Up - Mulligan's June RTT

Last weekend I made a bit of a trip to Mulligan's for their June RTT, which was an ITC event with 16 players showing up. I had decided to go pretty last minute, so I took a Necron list I was pretty comfortable with and took a Wraith-star list with the Start Collecting! Necrons formation, the Retribution Phalanx.

The boys are unleashed which can only mean a lot of ranting, questions, and good humor.

NOVA Bound: List Building and Event Changeups

After some finagling and politicking, I managed to snag myself a NOVA Invitational slot. As a result, I won't be able to play in Trios on the Thursday of NOVA. Fortunately, Rick stepped up and offered to take my place on the team with Todd and Ron. Looking at the countdown to the right, time is quickly running out and I need to lock down my lists and knock out some painting.

The Lion, The Wolf, and The Conclave: List Building

What is up guys?  It has been a while for a good list building post, but with ATC this weekend and NOVA in a month, the blog has been talking about all kinds of lists and list building. Well, I decided to do something that would have a funny reference in the name, but then could also bring together a couple of armies that may not fully like each other in the fluff, but could get the job done. This is a 3 source list using the Dark Angels, the Space Wolves, and Iron Hands. Three Legions to dive onto the field using Bikes, Wolves, and Psyker Bikes.

Green Tide Rising

After hearing some recent tourney success (and honestly finally starting to understand it) I decided to look into building a tournament style Ork list. When the book dropped last year, I'll be honest, I was pretty disappointed in my first look, though I liked the Waaagh! Ghazghkull supplement at first glance. Mostly, I had no idea how to make a list that felt Orky while also being fun and viable on the table. Generally speaking, Orks are resoundlingly meh, so it was hard to pick out units or combos that might be effective when half the point of Orks is that they're not effective - they need numbers to accomplish anything.

Rules Lawyer: Ongoing Reserves and Deep Strike

It's been a while since I last tried a Rules Lawyer post. This time, I'm looking at an issue that, as before, is pretty unclear in the rules. Namely, how being placed in Ongoing Reserves interacts with Deep Strike.

List Building: NOVA Madness 2015 Edition

It's only March and I'm already excited for NOVA. The other night, Ron and I had a quick Vassal test game for the updated NOVA Missions and I'm feeling pretty ahead of the game this year. I feel like I have my likely Necron list mostly planned out. And yes, that's right, as of today, I'm leaning to running Necrons in the GT and not Tyranids. There's still a lot on the "to paint" list, but I feel confident about getting everything done.

Army Construction: Necrons Decurion and Formations

In a follow up to my Army Construction post, I wanted to focus on the Necron Codex and their options. The Decurion is very different looking and a bit confusing when it comes to Detachments. That said, it works like other Detachments in terms of how it fits into the Army List.

Facing the Grey Tide Podcast - Episode 18: Necrons - The Old Ones Rise

What's up everyone?  On this Podcast, Bryan, Evan, Ron, and Chandler get together to talk about the latest Codex drop:  Necrons.  The Old Ones, the Living Metal, the Destroyers of Worlds.  We talk about the book, the units we like, the units we don't like, and the craziness that some of the units can bring.  Necrons rise to rule the stars again, and the boys are loving the new models.

Who can stand against the Living Metal?  We try to find out.

Army Construction Terms and Definitions

Misuse of Army construction terms has been a bit of a pet peeve of mine for a while, pretty much since the 7th Edition rulebook dropped. With the Decurion Detachment confusing the issue a little more, I finally decided to put this together. Some of it seems obvious, but terms like CAD and Dataslate get confused and misused all the time.

In this article, I'm going to start from the very top and work down in specificity, Take note of my use of capitalization in this article as it is very intentional. Capitalized words are used to call out words that have a specific definition when it comes to the game.

Shield of Baal: Exterminatus Review

Over the weekend I finished my read through of the newest addition to the Shield of Baal campaign. Again, the first thing that really stands out to me with the book is the artwork. I didn't note any repeated skull themes, but it was nonetheless very nice images. The take on the Tyranids in this series has been awesome, with a very unnatural and creepy look that fits with the longtime fluff descriptions of them.

White Dwarf 47 First Look: More Formations!

This week's White Dwarf is out and with it comes several Shield of Baal White Dwarf Exclusive Formations. There's also Jervis Johnson and the WD staff making up games with Poker Cards again for Fantasy and the Hobbit, but I'm going to gloss over that and just jump right to the formations.

Renegade Open or How I Came to Love the Knight

Hey everyone, BeeCee here.

On November 22 and 23 I played in the Renegade Open at the beautiful Fantasy Flight Gaming Center in Roseville,MN and I wanted to spend a little bit of time to recap the weekend.

Here's an Ad. Lance!
Firstly, I had a great time. The folks at Renegade care about the hobby, they care about the players, and they want everyone to have a good time. You may remember we had Puck and David on our podcast to talk about the event and get us excited for it.

Shield of Baal: Deathstorm Units First Look

Some lucky hobbyists have gotten copies of Shield of Baal Deathstorm already and shared the special rules for the units included. As with Stormclaw, the units have set equipment, but some get some pretty cool bonus special rules to counterbalance.

Advent Calendar Day 4: Crimson Slaughter Dataslate and Eldar Story

As we could have predicted from the Unrelenting Hunt dataslate on Tuesday, the Crimson Slaughter Dataslate, Kranon's Helguard, features the contents of the Dark Vengeance box on the Chaos side along with the expansion bundle box that was released recently.

Advent Calendar Dataslate: The Unrelenting Hunt

It's Advent Calendar time again from Games Workshop and Black Library. Last year this became considered a bit of 25 Days of Terror, as the Tau Firebase Cadre formation kicked things off, baffling everyone with such a strong formation. Now, with Formations being widely accepted and available, this becomes a little less intimidating. Today, on day two, we have a Dark Angel Formation, The Unrelenting Hunt.

Leaked Shield of Baal: Leviathan Tyranid Formations and Early List Builds

The Shield of Baal rules for Tyranids have been leaked (finally - been on the lookout since Monday) and there are a couple gems in there right off the bat. My two favorites are the Skytyrant Swarm and the Sporefield. The former allows a Flying Hive Tyrant to be joined to two units of gargoyles for 20-60 ablative wounds to get him across the board. The other provides recycling Spore Mines and Mucolid Clusters.

Champions of Fenris Space Wolf Supplement First Look

Last weekend saw the release of the Space Wolf Supplement - Champions of Fenris. Chandler will probably do a complete treatment of the book, including fluff and everything it entails. I'll just take a quick look at the new rules that come with the supplement.

Waaagh! Ghazghkull First Look

Ok, it's a little later than most of our "First Looks," but with the holiday weekend and fantastic weather, I wasn't hanging out with my computer much. Anyway, let's take a look at the supplement about the most famous Ork Warboss of all.

Battle for Blacksburg - Round 3 - Tyranids vs. Tyranids

Following my Round 2 Loss to Eldar, I was matched up against Ron in the mirror match of all mirror matches. Ron was undefeated and had just missed out on the championship game. Just a forewarning, after a full day of gaming, I didn't take nearly enough pictures, or as close a track as I should have, so this bat rep might be a bit thinner than most.
