Facing The Grey Tide Podcast - Episode 80: Gonyo Goes Off on some GSC

What is up Everyone? In this episode, Bryan and Chandler are joined by Andrew Gonyo of the Beast Coast and 40k Fame.  Gonyo steps up to help Bryan talk about Gene Stealer Cults, he breaks down some of his initial thoughts on the units and cults that might be good or seeing more table time, and he talks about where he sees GSC in the immediate future, in the next 6 months, and what it might eventually look like.  Gonyo also talks about his plans for Adepticon, his love for Beast Coast, and how horrible he is with fluff but how good he is with numbers and dice! Remember, Gonyo says "Breachers are AMAZING!"

"I just thought it was a little Bro on Bro crime....." Andrew Gonyo explains the Horus Heresy.

Facing The Grey Tide Podcast - Episode 79: Skari is Here to Help

What is up Everyone? In this episode, Bryan, Chandler, and Evan are joined by the one and only Skari.  The guys talk about some of the projects they are working on, we get an update on the #CultRises progress, and we get to know Skari a little better.  Skari gives us his best paint blend (you will understand, trust me), talks about his origins in the hobby as well as his first army, and we talk about his thoughts on everything from list building to painting and even get his experience at LVO.* Skari also explains how he would help someone getting into the hobby as well as someone looking to get better at the hobby.  Overall it is a good look into someone that really understands the hobby at the tabletop, hobby station, and above the table, and we are glad he came on to help us get better.

*Not all Cops in Vegas will Spank you......

Skari brings the Maple Syrup, Tim Horton's, and a lot of good information.

Facing The Grey Tide Podcast - Episode 78: So ManBeardPainting Stumbles In......

What is up Everyone? In this episode, Chandler sits down with Zach Bowles of ManBeardPainting fame and lore.  We sit down to talk about his origin story into 40k (Dawn of War is a gateway drug people), his love of Orks, some of the craziest commission stories he has, and of course about shenanigans that happen both on and off the table.  We talk about his painting on Twitch, for his hobby, and his commission work and get an insight if anyone is looking for a great painter to help get your army to the table.  We also talk about our thoughts on 3 color armies, and really just sit down to tell stories.

The Cult Rises: Update 6: My first Genestealer Cult list and a build week

Greetings Reader,

Here we are, on the last day of February and #thecultrises has been going on for the better part of two months now. I haven't quite hit my total painted models goal but I have been extremely pleased at consistent progress on this army as well as a pretty good quality of painting for my current skill level.

WIP Wednesday: Libby Dread and Completed Intercessors

In my last #WIPWednesday post (two weeks ago...), I talked about my rough schedule that I want to stick to in the coming weeks. Specifically, I called out wanting to finish a unit of Intercessors and have my Librarian Dreadnought finished as well for this week.

The astute among you may notice, that is not a completed Librarian Dreadnought

The Cult Rises: Update 5: The Kelermorph: The ballad of Blaster Scruggs

Greetings Reader,

Man have I been waiting for this moment, The Gunslinger has arrived. I'm not sure there has been a model I was more excited to paint. The Kelermorph is an amazing model and it was a blast to paint him.

The Cult Rises: Update 4: A Sire for Them all

Greetings Reader,

After a week off for some work travel and also getting the chance to check out the LVO for a couple days, I'm back for another update on the Cult of the Four Armed Emperor. This journey has been amazing so far, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has clicked in and checked this out, posted comments on Fecebook, Reddit, or this blog.

WIP Wednesday: Marine Progress and Scheduling the Hobby

It's been a couple weeks since my last #WIPWednesday post, and that might be the general schedule going forward as it sometimes feels like I don't have enough to show from a single week. That went double for the last two weeks as my weekends were devoted more to gaming than painting. That's not to say I didn't make any progress though.

Tournament Report: Vigilus Exterminatus - 1,500 Point RTT

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending a small tournament at Mishap Games, a store I have been wanting to visit since it opened several years ago. We would be using 1,500 point armies and some Games Workshop based missions for the three rounds. I opted to bring my Blood Angels without Knight support. I also brought some Tyranids for the TO to use as a ringer army since there was going to be 7 players otherwise.

The Cult Rises: Update 3: So Close, Yet So Far

Greetings Reader,

I am finishing up the first month of this yearlong journey and Ascension Day draws near. In just a little more than a week, the cults will be unleashed on the galaxy in the form of the Genestealer Cult codex and a bunch of new models.

Facing The Grey Tide Podcast - Episode 77: Dealing with Hobby Burnout

What is up Everyone? In this episode, Chandler, Evan, and Bryan sit down to talk about a couple of subjects that have popped up recently.  First the guys tackle the Bolter Beta Rule and give their impressions on it.  With a rule that hasn't been attached to a FAQ, it is new territory and everyone lays out their opinions.  The second part deals with the subject of Hobby Burnout (Fatigue, Exhaustion, ADD, etc.) and how we have approached it in the past, what mistakes we have learned from, and how to combat it going forward.  The guys also discuss how Hobby Burnout can be caused by a variety of issues, how some of it is based on how the player plays the game, and some pitfalls that we all wonder into at some point or another. We also get an update on #TheCultRises.

A slightly serious discussion is sometimes needed.Don't forget to check out our sponsors!

WIP Wednesday: Marine Assembly Line and Base Coats

Welcome to another #WIPWednesday! Last week I finished off a Contemptor dreadnought and added some work on some Rievers. This week I went back mostly to the assembly line and put together a bunch of Marines of various stripes.

The Cult Rises: Update 2: Iconward: Welcome to Fun with Flags

Greetings Reader,

BC here.

We are already into week two of #thecultrises. How are you liking it so far? I have to be honest, parts of it are frustrating to me- especially the grey skin of the Acolytes and Aberrants. The good news is because of the accountability of this journey, I'm steadily plugging away. Progress is contagious and I have found it easier to choose to paint over vegging in front of Netflix or playing a game of Battletech on PC. That in itself is tremendous hobby priority progress.

Shout out to Goatboy for creating this epic GSC art for me.

WIP Wednesday: Genestealer Cult Mechanicus Troops and a Contemptor Dreadnought

A couple weeks ago I shared my progress on kitbashing Skitarii and Neophyte kits for my Genestealer Cult Mechanicus project. While my goal is to copy Bryan with weekly updates, I didn't post last week because it was basically the same as my first WIP Wednesday post - just assembling more Neophyte Skitarii.

The Cult Rises: Update 1: Aberrants. Bro, do you even lift?

Greetings reader,

I bet you were skeptical you'd ever see another post from me where I stick with anything or even update this blog. Don't feel bad, I was pretty skeptical I'd get anything updated either. I suck at staying focused on just about anything. And yet, here we are!

I am a slow painter but I managed to finish four acolytes from the Overkill box that i had sitting around, did some detail work on my Abominant, and fully finished four aberrants and almost finished another 6. I'm calling that a win to get this machine started.

Facing The Grey Tide Podcast - Episode 76: The Plan for 2019

What is up Everyone? In this episode, Chandler, Evan, and Bryan sit down to talk about the plan for 2019.  With Genestealer Cult right around the corner, Bryan is in full prep mode to get stuff painted up as he is making 2019 the Year of the GSC.  Chandler talks about how Chapter Approved helped his wolves and he breaks down a couple of lists that he has been made to take to some local events.  Evan talks about the plans for his Blood Angels and some of the points adjustments that have helped his lists.  The guys talk about their plans for the coming year, what events they are looking on the horizon for, and the lists that they are starting 2019 with.

WIP Wednesday: Genestealer Cult Mechnanicus - Kitbashing Skitarii and Neophytes

As part of my hobby resolution to get back to working on projects that inspire me, and inspired in no small part by Bryan's #thecultrises effort, I have started working on a pet project that has been gestating in my brain since Genestealer Cults were first released a couple years ago. Specifically, I want to do my Genestealer Cult as a bit of a mashup with Adeptus Mechanicus and Skitarii.

The Rise of the Cult: A 2019 event

Hello reader!

For years the cult has been in waiting, assembled and grey. Stored in boxes in the depths of the hobby room, languishing from abuse from index points costs, beta reserve rules, and a general lack of time on my part. Now is the time to strike! I am calling 2019 #thecultrises and I'm hoping you will come along with me on this journey.

2018 In Review and 2019 Resolutions

Over the last year, while post frequency remained lower than we'd like, I started the year with a Year Review and Look Ahead post. So it seems appropriate to kick off 2019 with the same, looking back at 2018 and my resolutions for the year, and then making new resolutions for 2019.
