Organizing the Grey Tide

I've been in a hobby rut of late. In part this is because of a busy schedule, and in part it could be some lingering burnout. For me, if I just let something alone, a week away from the table will become two, which will become a month, and so on. I prefer to keep myself involved, keep the hobby on my mind, and maybe identify something I can do with my hobby I am motivated about. For me right now, that's organizing all my stuff.
The Grey Tide
I've mentioned having a grey tide, as you can see in the back of the picture above, I also have a tide of sprues, which take up a lot of space, particularly the sprues that are mostly empty, but with some good bits left. I'd never really had a good place to put these bits before; a bitz box is great, but for someone as ADD as myself with the hobby, it quickly can become an unusable mess when you have bits from several armies across several systems.

Jumping on the Tau bandwagon

Hi guys (and gals?), I'm Ron, I'll be posting here from time to time on FTGT; as much as time allows since I am a single dad of an amazing 3.5 year old.  I first got in to 40K with the Battle for Macragge set at the end of fourth, and have been buying up as much plastic crack as money has allowed since.  My main army is Tyranids - which you will see me showcase a bit here on the blog.  I also have a healthy (ok, probably unhealthy) amount of Space Wolves and Warriors of Chaos for Fantasy.  As with most wargamers who own three plus armies, I have a large amount of bits, on-the-sprue minis, and unopened kits lining every inch of free space available in my place that I will likely never get to in my life.  So when Tau came out with an awesome book (thanks Vetock!), and even better looking minis naturally I set about buying another closet or two worth of bulk plastic.

What to Bring: A Hoarder's Conundrum

As I've mentioned before, our local shop hosts a 1k Tournament the first Sunday of each month. It's been a while since I was last able to go, but it's looking like I'll be there this Sunday. Of course, not getting to play very often, I probably over think what to bring. One benefit of being an admitted army-hoarder is that I have lots of options, not only within a single army.

 or  or
The most likely choices for me are Tyranids (obviously), Orks, or Dark Eldar. Interestingly, I have together the pieces to have allied Eldar for my Dark Eldar (assuming no one takes issue with using the old Codex one day after the new one is released). Very unlikely choices would be Tau or Necrons; they would require some feverish assembly, which I would like to avoid if possible, and both are a little out of date.

Gaming Weekend Prep Update

We're in the home stretch and I honestly haven't gotten as much done as I would have liked. I should get a little more hobby time this week than last, but still not much. We'll be getting started on Friday evening, and I have conflicting events Tuesday and Thursday. This gives me two nights to get as much done as possible.

Other Games - MYTH Kickstarter

Forgive me for a little diversion from topics about 40k, but I wanted to give a little shout out to MYTH, a Kickstarter that is ending in a few days for a game that I am very excited for:

Tyranid Evolution

As I mentioned before, Tyranids were my first army, which is using the term loosely, as I began collecting and painting as a preteen during 2nd edition. Once 3rd Edition rolled around I had at least one of nearly every 2nd edition model, and a few genestealer cult models I found in dusty hobby shops.

Here's a look at some of my 2nd ed models and my by-the-book (or as close as I could get) scheme. At the time, the 'Eavy Metal team didn't even paint armies with singular paint schemes, so I definitely didn't either.

Hello, World!

My name is Evan and I'm a warhammer-holic, a miniature hoarder, a collector and gamer.

I first got into Warhammer, primarily 40k when I was around 11 during 2nd Ed, where I started out with the Tyranids. When 3rd edition came out, I switched over to the cool new Dark Eldar (temporarily anyway). About the same time, I expanded further into fantasy.

I played with a close friend and at my local Games Workshop all through high school, and even worked for GW one summer after I graduated. I brought a good bit of my minis and paints to college with me, but between lack of space in the dorms and all the other things to take my attention, I only broke out the minis once or twice the whole year. As a result, I left them at home the following year and slowly drifted away from the hobby, occasionally picking up something to paint when I went home.

Last Summer, 2012, a college buddy of mine was moving into town and mentioned that he had been getting into 40k. It didn't take much of a push  for me to fall off the wagon and dive back into the hobby, particularly with me having, for the first time in my life, some disposable income.
