This week's White Dwarf has arrived, and it features the somewhat surprise codex release of Grey Knights. For August at least, Games Workshop is ramping up the already frantic rules release schedule, giving us a second codex this month.
In the teaser blurb, it is hinted that the mysterious past of the Grey Knights will be at least partially revealed as tying back to their founding during the Horus Heresy. The promise of possibly linking up with the Garro series has me at least intrigued from a fluff perspective.
To go with the codex, there appears to be some re-boxed units, a limited edition that is a midway between the Space Wolf/Ork Limited Editions and the 6th Edition dust covers, and data cards for Sanctic Powers and Grey Knight Tactical Objectives.
In addition to the Grey Knight releases, there is also a Dataslate for Assassins, supporting the rumor that the new Grey Knight codex cuts non-Grey Knights, along with more Sanctus Reach fluff and Space Wolf boxes for Long Fangs and Swiftclaws.
In honor of the Grey Knight release, this week's Battle Report features Grey Knights squaring off against Daemons in a 1,666 point battle.
The Rules section this week includes the Nemesis Strike Force for Grey Knights, which has 1-2 HQ, 1-4 Troops, 0-4 Elites, 0-2 Fast Attack, 0-2 Heavy Support, 0-1 Lords of War, and 0-1 Fortification. The Warlord, if chosen from this detachment, may re-roll his trait rolled on the Grey Knights table. Additionally, all units from this detachment in Deep Strike Reserve begin rolling to arrive beginning on turn 1, and gain Battle Focus for the turn they arrive from Deep Strike.
The next article gets into a bit of the focus with the new book, namely that it is designed to be Grey Knights proper, and not Grey Knights as seen by Ordo Malleus Inquisitors. There's also a teasing blurb at the end of the article about the Grey Knights' origins, teasing that Garro's role remains a mystery to be revealed in the Horus Heresy series.
Next is a blurb about The Hour of the Wolf, which is said to conclude the story of The Red Waaagh. This is followed by some notes on Dataslate Officio Assasinorum, but doesn't reveal much of anything.
The White Dwarf concludes with assorted bits, questions, and trivia of the week.
